Kathy Nash graduated from Alberta College of Art in 1978 and has worked primarily in collage, mixed media and painting.
In the early 1990s she learned hand bookbinding and added artists books to her repertoire. After study with Oregon Book Arts Guild and Oregon College of Art she began teaching handmade books in classes and workshops in 1996. She has also completed numerous commissions of presentation and commemorative books for community groups and private clients.
“Making books by hand is a low-tech meditative art which allows me to slow down and enjoy the qualities of the materials I use, many of them indigenous plant papers from other cultures. Always a voracious reader, a new world opened up for me when I discovered artists books. I love the challenge of matching a sculptural book structure to the words or images I am presenting. Collage is also an important element to my work as it presents new ways of seeing and using castaway things as part of the recycling ethic.”
